Dear Students and Families,
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work together to support our students while navigating this mandated school closure. Thank you too, for observing the advice of health professionals and the Governor to Stay Home and Save Lives We know that in some way, all of us have been impacted by the Coronavirus and that those impacts are different for everyone. It is a good time to prioritize taking care of ourselves and, as much as possible, help others.
Food Boxes are Available During School Closure:
Food boxes are available to all children between the ages of 1 and 18 during the closure. The District will be delivering food boxes door to door via District transportation during the closure. Food boxes will be delivered between 1:00 and 3:00pm Wednesday afternoons. If you would like a food box or know of someone in the District who has children who need a food box, please call Maupin Grade School (541-395-2665) or South Wasco County High School (541-395-2225) by 4:00 PM Saturday, March 28th and leave a message. Be sure to include in your message:
- Parent’s name
- Child/children’s name
- Address
- Phone number
State Testing for 2019-20 School Year
The state of Oregon has applied for a state testing waiver with the United States Department of Education. This waiver has been conditionally approved - meaning that there will be no state testing required for students across the state this year.
Senior Students:
Due to the extended mandated closure, the State is working on a plan that will adjust graduation requirements for the Class of 2020 and we will work with Seniors to insure they meet those requirements. We can assure you that students who were on track to graduate before the school closures began will remain on track to graduate when they end. The Oregon Department of Education is expected to release changes to graduation requirements for the Class of 2020 by late Friday. We’ll post those changes to the website, email Seniors, and call parents as soon as those changes are released.
School Work, Grades:
We understand that school closures have affected families in various ways and that students have different demands on their time. Because of this, students are not required to complete any schoolwork during the closure. All students who were on track to move to the next grade level before the closure will remain on track to move to the next grade level in 2020-2021.
Supplemental Learning Materials:
If you want your child to have access to supplemental materials to keep them engaged in academic activities during the closure, our staff will be putting together resources both online and hard copy beginning Wednesday, April 1st. To gain access, have your student check their school e-mail. If you do not have internet access, call your child’s school and leave a message requesting materials. Materials requests must be received Monday to insure delivery the following Wednesday.
**Be sure to include your name, child’s name, address and phone number and that you are requesting hard copies of supplemental materials.
NOTE: All supplemental materials are meant to support and keep students engaged in academic work. They are not intended to replace classroom learning. These activities will not be graded or count for course credit.
